About Lauren Azar
Musical aspiration has driven Lauren Azar for most of her young life. Writing songs since the age of 12, self-taught in piano she further developed playing and massive soulful voice at Newtown Performing Arts High School.
Cutting her teeth on the live Sydney music circuit, she's played in dreamy piano bars to rock shows in front of thousands. Lauren has performed and collaborated with incredible artists such as The Rubens, Elizabeth Rose, Whispering Jackie and Donatachi.
In 2013, Lauren formed rock band Hey Horzé, combining her powerhouse vocals and rapidly developing an ear for melody and inimitable lyrics with her love of 90s alternative rock. After recording and releasing their debut EP and touring around Australia, the band members were hungry to explore other projects and dissolved the group.
Lauren then turned her attention to Starla, a project that would provide an outlet for more introspective and personal songwriting. Placing her lyrics front and centre, driven by a contemporary take on blue-eyed soul and anchored in Lauren’s funky keyboard riffs, Starla is the most evident realisation of Lauren’s songwriting potential to date. Gathering together like-minded players, Azar holed up in a studio in Kings Cross and laid down tracks for Starla’s debut EP.
Currently, Lauren is recording new music with the incredibly talented producer, Ash Maklad to be released soon.
